Promotion (Prodem)
1. What is Prodem?
Prodem stands for Promotion/Demotion.
The amount of votes required in order for your photo to be promoted into the showcase gallery is constantly changing in accordance with a number of factors (how much content is being added to the site, how many active users there have been recently, predicted user trends and 'the constant'.
Prodem is the name of the automatic algorithm Picli uses in order to define this value. It is powered by an enormous underground cog.
If the qualifying number of votes suddenly changes dramatically, 'lockdown' comes into effect. Lockdown is a security system designed to protect the qualifier in the event of spikes of high traffic.
2. My photo has a lot of votes. Why hasn't it been promoted?
The qualifying number of votes before photo promotion is constantly changing based on various factors. This is to ensure that we have a constant steam of photos promoted rather than one big group per day. As long as your photo continues to gain popularity relative to other photos on the site at the time it should eventually be published to the showcase.
Note: It is not just recently published photos that are eligable for promotion. Any published photo is considered by our algorithm regardless of the time it was published.
