Uploading Photos
1. What image formats does Picli support for photos?
Picli supports JPEG, PNG and GIF (not animated) image formats for photos.
2. How do I upload my photos to Picli?
Once logged in you will find a big Upload Photos link in the top menu. Simply click that, navigate to the photos you'd like to upload and click the green Upload Photos button at the bottom of the screen.
You'll be taken to step two where you can add information to your photos before saving them.
3. What does it mean to 'Publish' a photo?
By publishing a photo you are making that photo visible to everyone. When a photo is published it is entered into our voting system. The photo will then appear in the Upcoming gallery and should it receive enough votes... the Showcase.
4. I didn't take this photo. Is it alright to upload it?
In short, no.
You must knowingly have permission to upload the photo to Picli. This means having the rights to the image.
If we are directed to any photos that violate copyright they will be removed. Persistent abusers will be banned.
Please note this section of our terms of service:
"As a user of Picli you agree that you are responsible for the content (defined as - but not limited to: images, photographs, interactive media, videos, text and audio) that you upload to Picli. You shall be solely responsible for your own User Submissions and the consequences of posting or publishing them. You agree that you will not submit material that is copyrighted, protected by trade secret or otherwise subject to third party proprietary rights, including privacy and publicity rights, unless you are the owner of such rights or have permission from their rightful owner to post the material. Picli will remove content if properly notified that such content infringes upon anothers intellectual property rights or rights of privacy."
5. How can I keep some of my photos private?
Firstly, upload your photos in the usual way (click on Upload Photos in the top menu bar, browse to the photos on your computer and click Upload Photos).
When filling in the information for your photos take notice of the Privacy options. Clicking here allows you to select between public (everyone can see it), limited (friends only) or private (only you).
6. How can I get lots of votes on my photos?
The best way is to tell everyone you know. Why not email your friends, use social networking sites - publish a link on your twitter, Failbook or god forbid... Myspace.
Picli has a friends system which will eventually be able to notify your friends when you upload new content.
7. Should I upload all my photos at once?
It really is up to you.
We recommend that you stagger your photo uploads as spamming the site with all of your photos at once could irritate other users. Furthermore, if you upload all of your photos within a short space of time they may all move down the upcoming gallery quite quickly.
By staggering your uploads you are maximizing your exposure to other users of the site. Of course, if you've taken 8 pictures of a certain beach you could upload all of them at once into a new set but you don't have to publish (enable voting) each image.
It might be best to only publish the photos that you and your friends feel are the best.
8. By uploading to Picli do I lose ownership of my photos?
Not at all.
Picli does not claim any ownership over the content posted to the site. Do not, however, post anyone elses work without their expressed permission, as highlighted in our terms of service:

9. What are the differences between the various licenses?
Picli allows users the option to host full size images on the site, as with all content on picli you do so at your own risk whilst guaranteeing that you have the right to do so.
We offer the use of a series of different licenses, however, should this be breached it is the user's responsibility to investigate and address this issue.
User's can either select a standard © All rights reserved license or a Creative Commons license.
Creative Commons licenses offer an alternative to full copyright. See http://www.creativecommons.org for in depth information on the various licenses available.
Creative Commons Attribution
This license lets others distribute, remix, tweak, and build upon your work, even commercially, as long as they credit you for the original creation. This is the most accommodating of licenses offered, in terms of what others can do with your works licensed under Attribution.
Creative Commons Attribution No Derivatives
This license allows for redistribution, commercial and non-commercial, as long as it is passed along unchanged and in whole, with credit to you.
Creative Commons Attribution Non-Commercial No Derivatives
This license is the most restrictive of our six main licenses, allowing redistribution. This license is often called the "free advertising" license because it allows others to download your works and share them with others as long as they mention you and link back to you, but they can't change them in any way or use them commercially.
Creative Commons Attribution Non-Commercial
This license lets others remix, tweak, and build upon your work non-commercially, and although their new works must also acknowledge you and be non-commercial, they don't have to license their derivative works on the same terms.
Creative Commons Attribution Non-Commercial Share Alike
This license lets others remix, tweak, and build upon your work non-commercially, as long as they credit you and license their new creations under the identical terms. Others can download and redistribute your work just like the by-nc-nd license, but they can also translate, make remixes, and produce new stories based on your work. All new work based on yours will carry the same license, so any derivatives will also be non-commercial in nature.
Creative Commons Attribution Share Alike
This license lets others remix, tweak, and build upon your work even for commercial reasons, as long as they credit you and license their new creations under the identical terms. This license is often compared to open source software licenses. All new works based on yours will carry the same license, so any derivatives will also allow commercial use.
